The Companies and Intellectual Property Commission (CIPC) will launch a decentralised call centre system next month in a bid to address the poor service levels experienced by people wanting to register companies.
This is according to commissioner Astrid Ludin, who spoke to the portfolio committee on trade and industry this week.
BDO announced today that Wilson Rich & Associates, the largest independent company secretarial practice in Cape Town, is to join the firm with effect from 1 February 2012.
The Promotion of Access to Information Act, 2000 became effective on 9 March 2001, with the exception of sections 10, 14, 15 and 51, which became effective on 15 February 2002.
All public and private bodies are required in terms of sections 14 and 51 of the Promotion of Access to Information Act (PAIA) to compile manuals on how to access their records.
The Act gives companies a two year "transitional" or "grace" period and which to comply with the new Act. The contents of the Memorandum and Articles of Association of pre-existing companies may this remain unchanged for two years calculated from the effective date of the Act, being 1 May 2011 until 1 May 2013.
