The Companies and Intellectual Property Commission (CIPC) would like to accommodate customers in submitting the annual returns later than what the Acts require due to the system developments. The CIPC is waiving the late filing fee and penalties for annual returns on both companies and close corporations.

The Promotion of Access to Information Act, 2000 became effective on 9 March 2001, with the exception of sections 10, 14, 15 and 51, which became effective on 15 February 2002.
All public and private bodies are required in terms of sections 14 and 51 of the Promotion of Access to Information Act (PAIA) to compile manuals on how to access their records.
The Act gives companies a two year "transitional" or "grace" period and which to comply with the new Act. The contents of the Memorandum and Articles of Association of pre-existing companies may this remain unchanged for two years calculated from the effective date of the Act, being 1 May 2011 until 1 May 2013.
